Can RiverScript record GoTo Meeting, Webex, and Jitsi meetings?

Yes. In fact, RiverScript can record virtually anything you can hear on your computer because it captures system audio directly. That's exactly why we say 'transcribe everything' on our website. It can record audio from YouTube, Teams, Webex, Jitsi, Coursera, and virtually any other application.

We host very long conferences and forums on Zoom, so the resulting audio files are very large. Can RiverScript still transcribe them for post-event content?

Yes. The RiverScript Desktop Client quickly prepares and transcribes recordings into text, even when they come from multi-hour conferences and the source audio or video files are tens of gigabytes in size. The app supports files of up to 50 GB and up to 8 hours in length, while Live Recordings support sessions of up to 4 hours. In addition, the Desktop Client processes recordings 3-5 times faster than any browser-based solutions because most of the processing is performed directly on your computer. This allows you to prepare post-event content quickly using the built-in AI chat.

Can I record a meeting when recording isn't officially allowed?

RiverScript records your computer's system audio directly, just like a screen recorder, without relying on any specific application. The ability to record meetings in Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet may be regulated by law or internal rules. Live Recording is not about ignoring rules or restrictions – it's about making informed and responsible choices. Before recording a conversation, you should understand what you are recording and how you intend to use it. When it comes to intellectual property, trade secrets, personal data, and similar matters, you should always act responsibly and comply with applicable laws in your country. For example, in some countries, recording is permitted only if the other participants are notified and give their consent. We do not recommend recording anything that is prohibited by the law or by your company's security policies. Doing so may be considered a violation of privacy, corporate policies, or your employment agreement. If you work in fields such as healthcare or social services, the law often prohibits recording sensitive or confidential information for personal use, regardless of whether you do so silently or with permission. If you are unsure about the legal consequences or potential harm your recording may cause, consult a lawyer in your country or seek guidance from your company's legal department. We trust our users and believe they will use RiverScript in a lawful and responsible manner.

I want to record a meeting that may contain sensitive information. How does RiverScript store my data?

If you only record a meeting and do not transcribe it, the recording remains on your computer and is not uploaded anywhere. If you choose to transcribe the recording with RiverScript, the audio is securely uploaded to our server for temporary storage. RiverScript runs on Hetzner Cloud data centers in Helsinki, Finland, within the European Union. Detailed information about recording and transcription security is available in the Security section of our Docs. We retain audio recordings for 7 days for your convenience, while transcripts, translations, and AI responses are stored until you choose to delete them.

Does RiverScript use our meetings to train AI models?

No. RiverScript uses today's leading transcription models from ElevenLabs, OpenAI, and Deepgram, synchronizing them to deliver the best possible results. We do not train AI models, and neither we nor our subprocessors ever use your data to train AI models or for any other commercial purposes.

What if I only want the meeting recording without a transcription?

In that case, simply choose Save Locally after the recording is finished. The meeting recording will be saved to your computer without being transcribed. You can always convert it into text later if you need to.

I left home and forgot to stop recording a meeting. Will the Desktop Client keep recording all day?

Don't worry. The Desktop Client automatically stops recording after 4 hours. This limit is intentional and is designed specifically for situations like this. After 4 hours, the recording stops automatically.

Can I get a transcript with each speaker's dialogue separated and labeled?

Absolutely. This feature is called Speaker Diarization and is available with the Premium Plan. RiverScript can identify different speakers and separate their dialogue into individual speaker segments. To receive a transcript with each speaker labeled separately, enable the Detect Speakers option before starting a Live Recording. After the recording is complete, you can rename any speaker in the editor by clicking on the speaker label. Once you rename a speaker, all of their other dialogue will be updated automatically.

Can echo or audio feedback in Zoom, Teams, or Google Meet affect meeting recordings or transcription quality?

Technically, acoustic effects such as echo do not affect the recording process in the RiverScript Desktop Client itself. However, the recording will sound exactly as you heard it during the meeting, including any echo, audio feedback, or other interference that was present. Poor audio quality, background noise, or a quiet speaker will all be captured as they are. Because the quality of the source audio directly affects the recording, we recommend using high-quality audio equipment whenever possible. This is especially important if you plan to transcribe the recording afterward, as excessive noise can make speech more difficult for the AI Sync Model to recognize accurately. The lower the audio quality, the lower the transcription quality. However, the Premium AI Sync Model handles noisy recordings significantly better than the Standard AI Sync Model.

General guide to recording meetings with RiverScript Desktop on all operating systems

The setup process and system audio recording guide differ slightly between operating systems, so we recommend following the dedicated guides for Windows and Mac. However, the general principles below apply to all platforms and will help you record meetings without any difficulty.

The only thing you need to decide is whether you want to record only what other participants say or capture the entire conversation, including your own microphone input.

Click Start Live Recording and turn on Mic

If you plan to record your own voice, choose the microphone you want to use from the list before starting the recording. To include your microphone in the recording, make sure the Mic checkbox is enabled. You can click Start Recording before or after enabling it. A checkmark indicates that microphone recording is active.

You can turn microphone recording on or off at any time during the meeting whenever you need.

Please note that enabling or disabling the microphone in RiverScript only controls whether your microphone audio is included in the recording. It does not mute or unmute your microphone in the meeting application you are using.

If you are using the app only for recording and do not need a transcription, click Save locally in the pop-up window after the recording is finished. The audio file will be saved to your computer.

To open its location, click the folder icon next to the file name.

RiverScript is designed for every conversation participant, not just the host

Before RiverScript, the most common solutions were meeting assistants and browser extensions. Old tools typically require integrating a dedicated bot. Neither meeting bots nor browser extensions can record internal computer audio because they operate only within specific applications – effectively in a sandbox – without access to your system audio.

Obviously, recording meetings with bots is convenient only for the host, such as an employer or a teacher. For attendees – such as employees or students – it is often far less convenient. In addition, access is often temporary, forcing users to review the material quickly and under unnecessary time pressure.
